20/7/11 Townesville

Hi all
Sorry to hear about old Nels but he did have a good innings.
We caught up with Carol ,Trevor ,Amanda and Paul last night had dinner with them and went on a tour of his factory and downtown "The Strand" Very trendy with lots of restaurants and night clubs, certainly has changed over the years.
Drove up to Halifax and had a beer in a pub where Boy (Vals Dad) used to haunt in his day.Val spoke with an old guy who remembered him,it was nice for Val to talk to him.
Drove up to Lucinda where Australias longest jetty is (5.6 km).It is used to take sugar cane out to awaiting ships.Unfortunately it was damaged in the recent cyclone and is awaiting repair.

We then drove on to Cardwell which reminded me of Lakes Enterance 30 years ago but surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Stayed 2 nights in Bowen Had a good look around on scooter.Went to all the beaches, even one where clothes were optional and just my luck we were the only ones there !
Spent two evenings with our neighbours,a lovely couple with a Winnebago about the size of ours.Found a funky cafe called Food Freaks with great food and coffee, and they also sold some very nice girls stuff.
On the way up we met a couple from Canberra with an A van like ours also on their first trip, its good to exchange a few ideas and hints.
Staying in a lovely park in Townesville not far from Carol and Trevors, and are visiting them tonight.
Will have fun exploring this beautiful city tomorrow and dine in the Strand tomorrow night.Lifes Good.

1770 day 3

Another perfect day and Gregg is helping our mates Fern, Regandra and kids fit a motor to a push bike it is creating a lot of interest and fun.  Last night we walked on the beach, through rocks and sand dunes and paddled through the warm water what a magnificent experience.  Today who knows ? we have bought fresh fish for the evening meal and fresh local vegies, it is costing us almost nothing to live.  cheers from Val and Gregg

8/7/11 1770

Enjoying the most amazing stay at 1770 thats a place not a time. Camping with lots of hippy campers, free thinkers, overseas visitors and family next door to us who travel in a bus dad from south /africa, mum from New Zealand and two very little children, they have push bikes to travel around on what a perfect life.  Cost of staying is $5.00 per head, we are a stones throw from a magnificent beach nestled in under palms and trees, classical music coming from a nearby camp site and everyone is just so friendly.  Becky has been amazing on our trip and loves our walks on the beach morning and evening.  We have booked for three nights but might stay longer, off on the scooter to the 1770 beach around the corner for coffee and a stroll.
