Still Brooming 25/8/14

Cable beach has some amazing opportunities for photography
Val has once again shown her talents here

These were taken yesterday evening ,the sky was full of smoke from several out of control bushfires  nearby.

We are going for a drive up the beach this arvo with the Smiths
probably some snacks and a few drinks to watch the sunset once again.

There are morning, afternoon and sunset camel rides by 3 different companies. The camels are very well cared for and look stunning.

An old sea dog in an old pearling lugger helmet.
We had a look around the lugger museum.
My god they were brave guys in the old days
fighting off crocs and sharks and of course the bends, the cemetary is full of those who died very young

Broome again 24/8/14

Giant Boab near Derby was used as a prison by police when transporting prisoners.
Look closer there is one inside !
Two old dears jamming at Broome market and they were really good.
The market was good too a bit like Eumundi in the early days.
A Thai massage topped off our morning there.

On to Broome

 Two more shots from Kununurra.
2 crocks sunning themselves
The bottom one has a bird airing its wings on its back.

On our way to Broome we were stopped at a roadhouse about 160 k out  because of a severe bushfire .The road was opened after a couple of hours but it was dark so we stayed the night and had a great meal and headed off early to Broome

Found a great dog friendly park 2 mins walk to beach. Will stay a week.

Left and below sunsets at Cable beach are amazing.

Lake Argyle

Above freshy at Lake Argyle

Boabs along road at Kununurra with irrigation farming in backgound on the way to the Hoochery (rum distillery)

Kununurra 14 /8/14

Arrived in Kununurra and what a surprise.
So lush (thanks to the Lake Argyle Dam and irrigation) they grow everything here from mangoes, bananas and Chia the highest plant based source of fibre, omega 3 and protein loaded with vitamins and minerals.
Exporting to China in the near future
Right and below view from caravan park

View of Kununurra from lookout in town
A night out at the Pumphouse restaurant with some friends overlooking the lake local muso playing in the background.

Katherine Gorge 2

Accidentally pushed publish last time so
1 kids at CP near Litchfield who played with Beck for hours
2 Kooka at Katherine Gorge
3 Pub at Adelaide River where they filmed pub scenes in Crocodile Dundee
4,5,6,7 Katherine Gorge

Right RAAF were doing manouvers with this giant blowup thing and they were from Sale base
Two guys pulled into Victoria River roadhouse last night (we stayed there too ) in this classic 60s Morris camper (we had the same for our band van in the 60s)
They could only do 70kph so they put an M.G
motor in it so it now does 80kph

Litchfield National Park 11/8/14

Litchfield NP is a must visit
Magnetic termite mounds stand like gravestones in a cemetary (right)
They always build the mounds facing north/south to best avoid the heat and maximise temperature control
Below the more common cathedral mound

Florence falls cascade into a plunge pool and was very refreshing. Some young guys were diving from the top after climbing the rocks !

A little cool at first but very refreshing
I swam behind the waterfall and stood on a submerged log (I wish I had a waterproof camera)
Val the naturalist

Moving on to Katherine today to explore the gorge
Both well and loving NT

Visited the Museum earlier with a display on cyclone Tracey
a must to see !
We are leaving Darwin tomorrow (its been 2 weeks)
Off to Litchfield N P and then Katherine Gorge

Sunday 3 August 2014

We did a sunset dinner cruise on the harbour
The food and views were great (a little cramped)
Next time we might take the more expensive one !
